I am enthusiastic about this intiative and impressed with the web site, the energy and committment going into something we should have all be doing already. This is what leadership is all about. Let me kknow what I can do. Respects, Chief Walker

The race sounds like lots of fun but I am disappointed that the kids race eliminated 4th & 5th graders. My son would love to participate but 3+ miles is a bit to far for 9-11 yr olds to run. I think that had this race been opened up to include this age group you would have had an even greater turn out.

      Hi Sue
Thank you so much for commenting! I have good news. The kids 1/4 mile race is open to 4th and 5th graders. It was an oversight of mine that I didn’t update this post.

Originally when we spoke with the principals they felt that the 4th and 5th graders would be not likely to want to do the 1/4 mile race. So that’s why we designated it for K-3. And we got permission for all students to have a reduced entry fee of $10 on the 3 mile race.

So we hope that this will allow your son and other children to participate. My apologies for the confusion!

Please feel free to send us your feedback on how we can make the race even better for next year!

We had mostly 3 very dedicated moms working on this setting up this race and silent auction. So far they have amassed $10,000 worth of auction items!!! In just a little over a month, that is outstanding! Usually events like this are planned over the course of a whole year!

Nice work: Stephanie Flynn, Marie Terrio, and Stacy Ferreira!!!!

Once the election is over, I will have a post on this website highlighting some of the cool auction items that will be available to bid on at the race.

And the really awesome thing is we will be raising a lot of money for DY Schools! We are grateful to the YPD for their generous contribution from this YPD 5K race and allowing us to combine our kid race with theirs! Awesome community spirit!!
