DY Per Pupil Expenditures Are Quite Average

April 14, 2010

Crystal Gips, a citizen of Yarmouth, has done some research on Per Pupil Expenditures (PPE) for the DY school district and how they compare with other Cape districts. Here is a link to her letter in the Cape Cod Times:

Per-pupil expenditures are average in D-Y schools

Additional information on this subject can be found in this article in The Register:

Dennis urges Yarmouth to support school override

In the article Dennis Selectman Wayne Bergeron cites some enlightening facts about the DY School budget. Here is a quote from the article:

Dennis Selectman Wayne Bergeron responded by distributing the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s list of fiscal 2009 per pupil expenditures, which ranks the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District 53rd of the state’s 85 regional districts in per pupil spending at $13,500.

“You will note,” Bergeron said, “that D-Y is under the statewide average in per-pupil spending in every category listed.”

That includes per-student spending on administration; classroom and specialist teachers; other teaching services such as aides; professional development; instructional materials, equipment and technology; guidance counseling and testing; pupil services; operation and maintenance; and others.

“This certainly puts us in the ballpark with other school districts,” Bergeron said. “I brought this to show that we’re not crazy around here in terms of spending.”
